De-Clutter Support Group - 4th and Final Week

Image
The topic for the last class was Time Management.  We discussed grouping "like" tasks together to save time such as returning telephone calls, answering emails and errands.  I asked everyone to make a list for one week of all of their activities.  They are to look at that list at the end of the week to weed out the following:  what tasks are my time wasters, what tasks can I delegate, what tasks can I totally eliminate? We also organized our pursues and one junk drawer. This being the last group, I provided everyone with a survey and asked them to complete it along with any statements they wanted to share about the group.  Some of the responses were: "I really liked Wendy's group, it was a great motivational tool.  Just the kick start I needed to get me on the right track!" "Sometimes you have to pay for sanity."  (She thinks I should have t-shirts made with this slogan - not a bad idea!) "I learned why my stuff was controlling me, ins...

De-Clutter Support Group - Week 2

During week 2 our topic was The Psychology Behind Clutter and Changing Behavior. We discussed the fact that it's not just about the "stuff." During the course of our lives, we have experiences - bad and good. Those experiences shape us. For some, it could be that their room was messy as a child and their parents "cleaned up" for them. In doing so, they lost their most precious stuff and felt like they had no control over the situation. When they became an adult and began living in their own homes, they acquired and never let anything go. Or someone has suffered a loss - that loss could have been of a parent, spouse, child or of a job or even a dream. To fill the emptiness that loss has left behind, some turn to acquiring to fill the void. I had all of the attendees take quizzes. One was Are You Situationally Disorganized. The other was Are You Chronically Disorganized. What I told the attendees was once you know which you are, you can acknowledge t...

Week 1 - De-Clutter Support Group

Image
We began our meeting with an icebreaker.  Each attendee was given a blank piece of paper and with their eyes closed, I read instructions.  After all of the instructions were read and each piece of paper was held up - no two came out alike.  The point I was making is that each of us sees and hears things differently.  That is okay.  Everyone's organizing style is different. After the icebreaker, we each took turns telling our story.  There were tears, laughter and many of us shared similar stories.  After the introductions we discussed the topics for the first group which were getting started and procrastination.  These two topics were very interesting to my 6 attendees.  We discussed how to get started, scheduling, organizing, getting stuck, organizing products and finally procrastination. Finally, each attendee was paired up with a de-clutter buddy, contact information was exchanged and they were to contact each other during the week...

De-Clutter Support Group Starting in February in La Porte

Image
I am so excited to be teaching these groups! This is something that I have had on my mind for a year now. I really enjoy teaching my one on one clients how to de-clutter and organize. I felt that there was a need to reach many more in the community with de-cluttering and organizing tools - basically dealing with the "stuff" that we all get buried with. There will be more locations added for the De-Clutter Support Groups throughout this year. Some locations include Valparaiso, New Carlisle, South Bend, New Buffalo. I am looking forward to meeting every single one of you that register for these groups. I cannot wait to hear your stories - and to help. I want to give you the Top 5 Reasons to attend this group: 1.  It will be fun! 2.  You will learn valuable organizational information. 3.  Value.  We will meet for a total of 6 hours.       If you were to purchase 6 hours with me, it would cost over $300.00. 4.  You will meet oth...
