A Long Delayed Invitation to Celebrate Christmas
"What does your apartment look like?"
"When can we see it?"
"How many bedrooms do you have? Can we stay overnight?"
These are the questions that my client, Carolyn's nephews asked her many times after she moved from her mother's house and into her very own apartment.
Initially, Carolyn wanted to have everything in her new home organized just right before she had family over. She said that by Christmas she would be ready to invite them. Christmas of that year came and went. So did many other Christmases.
Carolyn started off with the best of intentions after moving in, but never set up systems or designated places for her items. Because of that, over the years, since nothing had a place, there was clutter everywhere. She felt helpless - and hopeless.
I met Carolyn about 5 years ago when she attended a Clutter Support Group that I organized locally. After the group ended, we lost touch.
Carolyn and I reconnected again about 4 months ago when I spoke at a local event. She signed up for a Strategy Session with me on the spot and we talked that next week.
I knew a bit about Carolyn's situation from the Clutter Support Group years ago - and Carolyn had shared with me that her situation had gotten worse and she was now afraid of being evicted. She knew that she wanted to declutter and organize her home and her life. She knew that this was the time because she had had enough. Carolyn hired me on that telephone call.
We began working together virtually in September. We got very clear on Carolyn's "why". Why she wanted to declutter and get organized. Then we created a plan to get her there.
Through 7 virtual organizing coaching sessions, Carolyn has not only removed many boxes of paper and unused belongings but has also developed new awareness around her clutter. She has also developed new skills to deal with clutter coming into her home. Carolyn's items also now have their own designated places.
Carolyn told me on our last call that she was going to invite her family over for Christmas this year. She had her dining room table clear - except for the one Christmas decoration adorning it.
If you are stuck in the same place that you have been in for many years and are ready to do something different, to have support, then I invite you to schedule a Strategy Session with me. Just click this link and select your time Wendy's Calendar
I look forward to talking with you!
