La Dolce Vita - "The Sweet Life" Day 1 - Stay the Course

Welcome to La Dolce Vita - "The Sweet Life" - 22 Days in Rome.

In Italy, life is slower and sweeter.  I want to bring "the sweet life" into my life.

I want you to experience "the sweet life" as well.  So, for the next 22 days, I will be posting about a memory of Italy - and how I brought just a bit of "the sweet life" back with me.

As we were driving from the airport to the hotel I thought, "this looks like Hawaii - or California."  Palm trees, mountains, beautiful water.   Thinking back, I may have seen it this way because I was exhausted after a 9 hour flight.

When we arrived at the hotel, or actually when the driver dropped us off a block from the hotel (cobblestone, narrow streets prevented us from having door to door service) it finally hit me.  I'm in Italy.

While we explored a bit of Rome we stumbled upon a wonderful piazza (see photos of the fountain and the statue), and had a beautiful dinner - complete with limoncello.

Our first hotel in Italy, Steve and I at the Vatican, dinner on the plane, great piazzas, a serenade and of course limoncello.

Vatican museums, St. Peter's Square and the Colosseum to name a few amazing places we got to see on the first day.
I learned a very valuable lesson the first day in Rome.  If you want to cross the street, just GO!  Find a crosswalk and walk.  Otherwise, you will never get across.  I also found that cars will stop for you.  (Unlike Chicago traffic.)

At one point crossing the street, I saw a couple cars heading my way and I stopped.  My brother-in-law kept walking and said, "Don't change your course.  Keep going."

Truer words were never spoken.  In life, you have to keep going.

Ciao ......  till the next post!

Wendy
