World Environment Day is Tomorrow. How Are You Celebrating?

Image
With World Environment Day approaching on June 5th I wanted to share this handy reference guide to decomposition in hopes that you reconsider before you toss that Aluminum can into the garbage. World Environment Day challenges us to do one positive thing for the environment.   So I've been mulling this over.  What can I do to positively impact the environment?   Here is what I have come up with: Shop at a food co-op.  You are keeping food and money local which has a positive impact on the environment (no shipping the food across the country) and the local economy. Shopping for clothing at a resale shop. Walking whenever you can. Using cloth bags when shopping. Composting. Re-purposing.  The wool sock you are about to throw out can be used for dusting. My question - challenge to you is - what is one positive thing you will do on World Environment Day?  Will you carry it through to every day?

The Sock Thief Has Struck Again

Image
In honor of Lost Sock Memorial Day  on May 9th I would like to share some strategies with you to keep your socks together. Lingerie Bags    I know - it sounds weird but they really do work.   Here is how it goes:  each family member gets a lingerie bag and it is marked with their name in laundry marker.  Every time socks leave their feet - they go into the lingerie bag.  On laundry day the entire bag is placed in the washer and then the dryer (it usually works best this way) and then the socks are sorted and relegated to their home. Loc-a-Soc.   This is a product where you, well, lock your socks.  They come in a 10 pack and in various colors.  Each family member would get a specific color.  Not a bad idea - I just don't see children and husbands locking their socks. Moving on - what do you do with that one sock?  Facing reality is often the toughest thing you will have to do.  However, accept the f...

A Different Perspective

Image
Recently I had to have an MRI.  I'm claustrophobic and scheduled an "open" MRI.  I had a panic attack anyway.  The operator came out and explained to me that if I looked to my left I could see through to the wall.  That helped.  I made it through the MRI.  That got me to thinking about changing the way I look at things. So.....with National Stress Awareness day upon us (ironic that National Stress Awareness Day falls on April 16th - immediately after Tax Day) I thought this was a great time to talk about different perspectives.   So, I'm thinking that we can look at stress a different way.  A good way.  I'm choosing to look at stress and ask myself - what can I be thankful for here?    Below is a clipping I found in a paper a few years ago.  I thought I would share it with you now. So with regards to my panic attack in the MRI.  I am thankful for the following: 1.  Health insurance so that I could get an M...

March 30th is I Am In Control Day

Image
So - are you?  In control?  I know I don't feel like I am always in control - all the time.  Sure I plan and I prepare but life is unpredictable.  That's what makes it interesting.  Some days are more interesting than others of course. The question is - do you feel like your life is more  out of control than   in control?  As a coach this would be a topic I would LOVE to coach around.   She looks like she's in control......of her collection of hats? Let's start with another question.  Where do you feel in control?  You want to go with your strengths and, as the old saying goes, "it ain't broke don't fix it."   You want to go with what works.  For example, do you have a system in place that works for you?  That system could be as simple as having a hamper in the exact spot that your laundry tends to land.   Next question.  Where or when do you feel out of control?  Make a list.  Is i...

My Pendaflex-Able Life

Image
I have a new system for my portfolio that I carry to client assessments and to meetings.  The old system worked fine - except that I sometimes had several different papers in the folio and it got a little disorganized.  (I really hate that).   I was searching Amazon and found the I-Organize system from Pendaflex .  I'm very excited about it! The I-Organize system from Pendaflex. My old portfolio.  In the left pocket were various papers and my business cards.  The right side held my notepad. A look at all of the various papers stored in the left pocket of my portfolio. This is what comes with the I-Organize starter kit.  1 media file,  1 envelope. 2 secure file folders and 1 clipboard. All assembled.  So far I am loving this system.  It took me maybe 10 minutes to set it up and transfer my papers into it. I will be ordering at least two more secure file folders.  I'm going to use those the ...

Send a Card to A Friend

Image
February 7th is Send a Card to a Friend Day.  A real card.  In the mail.  Imagine that!  What a wonderful way to keep in touch. To make it really easy and fun for you to send those cards to your friends I would like to show you how I have organized my greeting cards. The box that you see below is my greeting card box.  I purchased this from Current many years ago and it has served me well.  I think I paid around $12.00 for it.  They provide you with labels and dividers which work great.  I did add one category to the very back of the box marked Assorted.  In that category I have some extra envelopes and some oddball cards.  For example - an Easter, Halloween and a St. Patrick's Day card.  Now I've never known anyone to send out St. Patrick's Day cards but you never know when I might have the need for one.  I also have a Valentine's Day Card for my husband that I forgot to give him a few years ago - so I'm all set for t...

Make Your Dreams Come True Day

Image
A dream is a wish your heart makes.   Walt Disney January 13th is Make Your Dreams Come True Day.  What dream do you want to come true today....this month....this year? More time, a less cluttered environment, a dream vacation? Have you considered creating a vision board?  I have had a vision board now for 6 years.  I read about vision boards in J ack Canfield's book The Success Principles .  I heard Jack Canfield speak at my first NAPO conference back in 2007 in Minneapolis, MN.  To say he was compelling is to put it mildly. During that conference I also got to see Sarah Jessica Parker who happened to be promoting her new perfume line just down the street.  So just for the record - professional organizers are not just all work and no fun~! Anyway, back to the vision board idea.  If the mind visualizes something enough it will eventually come to fruition.......or something along those lines was the jist of the vision board ide...
